Ambitious, driven and extremely creative, 35-year-old Gaurav Choksey is a visionary restaurateur who has big dreams for transforming the city’s F&B milieu for the discerning diner. Recently in news for launching Zerua, the swankiest rooftop lounge in Mumbai, atop Atria Mall, Worli, Choksey strongly feels about the city’s lack of open spaces and wants to offer some of the best addresses in town for an open space with a relaxed vibe and incredible food and drinks.

Choksey is deeply involved in executing every venture he backs—from choosing the tile to the cutlery to studying menus and giving inputs on the cocktails being created—he is extremely involved in building all his brands. For him, restaurants are a never dying industry—there may be a pause in business—but every now and then, people want to go out and experience good food and service and that’s what he is here to cater to!

Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, Choksey has always been interested in starting new and exciting projects. His other ventures include prestigious projects like The Spare Kitchen, The Terrace Bar & Cafe, Vice Global Tapas Bar, Cafe Cubano, Theko, Fiori Jewels FZCO, Fastmart, Apricate hospitality, Silizium International, Diamond Palace Jewellery TRD, LLC. His interest in restaurants began as a casual way of helping friends in the F&B business ten years ago and has since transformed into a deep-rooted passion for the industry. With time, his understanding of the business has expanded multifold and he is cognisant of the fact that most Indians who travel worldwide, now expect global cuisines to be served in their city. He wants to cater to this audience by bringing them world-class meals, served to suit the local palate.

We’ve been raised on flavourful meals and so, even if we aspire to have global cuisine, we expect food to be adjusted to our flavour profile—that little umami is what makes all the difference. "When I see customers walk out of that door with a happy face, I feel like I have achieved something” he adds. That is his secret behind running successful restaurants and F&B ventures in the city. Choksey is of
the strong belief that the key to success is passion, not money.
